1967 – This Is It! (1990) |
Generation Books, 214 p, paperback with 45
rpm record, illustrations Martin Sharp
I never feel like writing a ‘normal’ novel. This is possibly because
I am not a ‘novelist’.
By 1990 I had ghost-written about 20 books I’d rather forget. Their
titles do not appear on this Website, but for example they had titles like
How To Make Money On Future Commodities and so on. Having made such huge compromises
for so long, when it came to 1967 I made none.
A 45 rpm record comes with the book, (Engineer: Brett Copeland; Producer:
Nic Lyon. Cut by: Paul Bryant at EMI Sydney):
A. This Is It! – 3.14
(words: David Jensen & Robert Wolfgramm
- music: Robert Wolfgramm)
vocals: Jason Whalley, guitar: Tony Stacey
guitar: Hamish Mitchie, bass: Alex Mitchie, drums: Derek Barg
Other vocals: David Jensen, Karl Jensen, Joe McGuiness, Hamish Mitchie, Alex
Mitchie
B. Communist Girls – 3.12
(words: Lowell Tarling - music: Robert Wolfgramm)
vocals: Dave Jensen, guitar: Mitch Hart
guitar: Hamish Mitchie, bass: Alex Mitchie, drums: Derek Barg
People who will enjoy it: Anyone having regular acid flashbacks. Late high
school children and 60s revivalists who still own a record player.

Raving on:
Two publishing companies were interested in the manuscript provided I dropped
the idea of having a 45rpm record in the back, and if I also agreed to a hard
edit by a good editor.
If only I had submitted 1967 to a cruel editor before going to press! It’s
the only thing I did wrong. (Apart from not promoting it at all.)
The content is loosely based on my 1967 diaries, and The Blitz is a combination
of what can laughingly be referred to as our high school band and The Wilts.
I had to use the Wilts – there’d be nothing to write about our
so-called high school band. Fortunately, Allan Broadhurst was in both line-ups – which
helped continuity.
However, every character in the book is a genuine composite. Yes - the road
death and the unmarried pregnancy really happened, however I have attributed
them to whoever seemed to warrant it in terms of the plot. |
