Breadwinner (2000, 2001, 2001, 2002, 2002, 2003, 2005, revised and updated 2008) Information Australia, Bas Publishing, 256 p, paperback
Co-authored with Tom O’Toole Breadwinner is Tom’s story – from a poor small-town kid to the man who created Australia’s most successful standalone bakery, the famous Beechworth Bakery. It’s funny, it’s sad and it’s wise. I enjoyed writing it very much. People who will enjoy it: Everyone loves Tom’s book. My daughter Zoë read it when she was 13 and – apart from Taylor’s Troubles – she possibly hasn’t read anything else I’ve written. Business people, positive people, even church people love Tom’s book (I have heard a tape of extracts of Tom’s book used as the basis of a church sermon, though – when they read an extract from the book – the language was modified.) |

Raving on:
Tom tackles everything with enthusiasm, energy and a bout of nerves. This
book is no different. Staying with Tom and his family in Beechworth was good
fun, as was working on the book.
Tom is so popular. He ensures me that every week without fail, at least one
person sends a complimentary email about the book, sometimes going as far as
to say the book has ‘changed their life’. And I’m sure it
did, because Tom changed his own life – he turned himself right around – and
is a living testimony to the fact that setting goals, having an attitude of
gratitude, remembering that little things are the only things, remembering
that believers pick up the prizes and…all that stuff sure works for Tom.
I’ve seen it. I’ve stayed in his house. |
