Raving on:
I remember where I was when my wife Robbie told me that Azaria Chamberlain
had been taken by a dingo. I had an enduring interest in the case, the people
involved, the art and music associated with Azaria, and I firmly believed Lindy
was innocent. As if that wasn’t enough, I was writing for Phil Ward at
the time, and he worked tirelessly on the case. He talked about it all the
time.
Eventually I wrote a 10,000-word article called ‘Azaria’s Rock’ for
Rolling Stone magazine. It was also published in an American magazine in two
parts. Michael liked that article and so there was a natural understanding
of where I stood - in regards to the Chamberlains themselves as well as the
case).
We wrote much of this book in the vicinity of Avondale College. At the time,
I found it extremely difficult to co-habit the same neighbourhood as the College,
the college cafeteria and the college graveyard. |
