Guilty To Driza-Bone (2002) |
Crown Content, 298p, paperback
Co-authored with ‘Mr Driza-Bone’ Frank Fisher
Guilty To Driza-Bone is the true story of the Driza-Bone coat during the formulative
years that lead it to become an Australian icon. It is the story of how Frank
Fisher and his wife Pat, bought a company that was dead-in-the-water and turned
it into something that Prince Charles wears!
It is Frank’s story, from the Depression to now – from extreme
poverty and neglect to driving a Rolls Royce and celebrating 50 years of marriage.
People who will enjoy it: Everyone with an interest in an ‘Australian
story’ (and this one goes back to Thomas Pickup who came to Australia
in 1818), everyone – of course – researching Driza-Bone coats and
anyone with an interest in the development and growth of the Australian manufacturing
sector.

Raving on:
I had ever such a good time with Frank, working on his book, especially when
we recorded the tapes (all of which he has in his possession).
My impression is that this book came about because the Driza-Bone Company
(the people who bought the company from Frank and Pat) produced a ‘Driza-Bone’ book
which was more promotional than historical. Somehow this needled Frank, because
Driza-Bone has such an authentic Aussie history, going back to the Convict
area. So Frank set the record straight, not only telling the story of his and
Pat’s involvement with Driza-Bone but also interviewing the previous
owner, Gordon Harmon, as well as checking other historical sources. |
