I sold my soul for pennies
Just like most people do
The price is cheap for a working life
That takes control of you
To trade away your better self
And everything sublime
And work at empty things all day
And sell off all your time

You sell your souls for pennies too
How did you spend your day?
Is there anything you did at work
That’s worthy of display?
I bet you did an honest job
And everybody’s pleased
I wish I’d kept my soul myself
Or sold it to the trees

I sold it way too cheap
And when I wasn’t doing that
I was probably asleep
And then I woke up with the sun
Again I was re-hired
Instead of doing something beautiful
I did what was required
